Facts about Cancer
Cancer for the unaware is a band of diseases described as an uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. If not handled, it can result in death. Cancer is the second most frequent cause of death in the US only overtaken by heart disease. Anyone can develop cancer, but it's more commonly diagnosed in individuals 55 yrs of age and older. It is remedied via surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, biological therapy and targeted therapy. An astounding amount of $226.8 billion is the calculated sum total of cancer in 2007.
The American Cancer Society revealed in the Cancer Facts & Figures 2005 report that, "About 5% to 10% of all cancers are clearly hereditary, for the reason that an inherited genetic alteration predisposes the person to a very high threat of particular cancers."
In their 2010 report it states that after 5 years, and with all the developments, about 5% of all cancers are clearly inherited, in that an inherited genetic alteration confers a very high risk of developing a number of specific kinds of cancer.'
