Palpitations, are they a concern?

Palpitations are often described as a fast and irregular beat, an extra beat, "a flutter" or "gun beat". Are most often harmless but there are situations in which betrays a heart condition. In both cases cause restlessness and anxiety, which often pushes the person to consult a doctor. In some people palpitations may be accompanied by pallor and sweating.

Why palpitations occur?

Palpitations causes are related to heart or not. Most times they are not expression of heart disease but many extra cardiac factors. In a healthy person palpitations occur due to stress, poor diet (too much, too little, too much fat - cholesterol, etc.), physical or mental saturation, excessive tiredness or sedentary. In the emergency room have seen many cases where
young people accused unpleasant brackets in the form of repeated blows to the chest, although clinical examination was a regular rhythm and a normal rhythm. It turned the discussion with these people that they have consumed shortly before large quantities of stimulating substances such as coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks based on caffeine or energy, or had an overloaded schedule lately, neglecting periods of rest.

Here are some situations where palpitations occur:

• Use of stimulant substances: coffee, tobacco, tea, alcohol

• Some drugs: atropine, ephedrine, thyroid extracts, inhaler solutions for asthma, decongestants
