We all know that drinking water is one of the best tips to cure gout problems. If you do not like to drink too much water you will have to get used to the idea of drinking at least 8 to 12 glasses of water every day and make it part of your lifestyle in order to treat gout attacks.
If you don't want to drink much of plain water every day, there is an option of drinking alkaline water. You do not have to drink 12 glasses of alkaline water but just about four glasses of alkaline water is sufficient. In fact it is easier to drink four glasses of alkaline water than drinking 8 to 12 glasses of plain water.
Another alternative to plain water is to have foods with high water content like watermelons and tomatoes. Watermelon is perhaps the only food that has 92 % of water and low purine levels. In most cases these foods are alkaline when eaten raw but become acidic when cooked. As a result it is better to eat raw fruits and vegetables instead of cooking them.
However, water contained in foods should not be considered as water intake. You can never judge the amount of water you intake from the foods that you've had but you can easily judge how much water you have taken from the number of glasses.
Keeping track of the amount of water that you drink during the day is very difficult. Therefore, if you can fill a water jug of 64 ounces every morning or evening, you will be able to judge how much water you drink by the amount of water left in the jug. A good start would be if you are able to finish the jug every day. You can store this jug in the refrigerator and if you go to work, you can carry a 34 ounce water bottle which is almost a litre from that jug. When you refill your jug in the morning or in the evening make sure that it is empty.
If you are unable to drink this much of water every day, there are other fluids that can be substituted for water like black tea, herbal teas, fruit, homemade juices and green tea as well. Milk also has an additional property that is it is a base and also low purine content, so it reduces the rate acid in the blood. But if you can really adhere to drinking only water that would be the best way to prevent gout attacks rather than opting for the substitutes.
