About adhd - causes, signs, and symptoms - What all Parents Need to Know

If you are the parent of an adhd child chances are you will try to find out as much information as you can about the disorder including what treatments are available. Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation these days about the disorder and this can make sifting through it all to determine the facts somewhat of a trying and time consuming experience. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a very common childhood disorder that affects millions of children throughout the United States and around the world. The symptoms of the disorder very often continue through the teenage years and on into the adult years. The symptoms are associated with difficulty focusing and sustaining attention, difficulty when it comes to behavior control, and hyperactivity.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is divided into what are called three sub-categories or types:

1. Hyperactivity or Impulsivity

2. Inattentiveness

3. Combination of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattentiveness

Interestingly the majority of children those are diagnosed with this disorder actually fall into the third sub-category. When it comes to the treatment of the disorder the symptoms can be alleviated but there is no cure for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Nevertheless it is possible for people who are diagnosed with the disorder and on treatment to live perfectly normal and productive lives. Researchers are continually looking into developing better treatments and interventions so as to gain a superior understanding of the disorder and the ways in which to treat and even prevent it.
